Title: Underwriter

Location: Woodbridge, ON (In Office)

About the Role:

We are seeking a detail oriented and analytical Underwriter to join a growing insurance brokerage. This role will be responsible for assessing risk, reviewing submissions, and determining appropriate coverage terms to support the company’s commercial and personal lines portfolio. The ideal candidate has strong communication skills, sound judgment, and the ability to balance risk assessment with client service excellence.

Responsibilities:

• Evaluate new and renewal insurance applications to determine risk exposure and pricing
• Analyze documentation including financial statements, inspection reports, and loss history
• Collaborate with brokers and clients to gather missing information and negotiate terms
• Review and interpret underwriting guidelines, ensuring compliance with industry regulations
• Recommend coverage options and prepare underwriting reports for management approval
• Maintain strong relationships with insurers and underwriting partners
• Support the development of new programs and underwriting procedures
• Stay up to date on market trends, regulatory changes, and emerging risks

Qualifications:

• 3+ years of underwriting experience in commercial or personal lines (property & casualty preferred)
• Post secondary education in business, finance, or insurance related field
• CIP, CAIB, or working toward a similar designation is an asset
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational ability
• Proficiency in insurance management systems and Microsoft Office
• Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative approach to work
