Title: Underwriter

About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced and detail oriented Underwriter to join a growing insurance brokerage. This role plays a key part in assessing risk, structuring coverage, and ensuring clients receive competitive, comprehensive insurance solutions. The ideal candidate brings sound judgment, technical expertise, and a client focused approach to underwriting, particularly within the construction and commercial sectors.

Responsibilities:

• Evaluate new business and renewal applications to determine eligibility, coverage, and pricing
• Review and analyze submissions, including financial statements, inspection reports, and prior loss history
• Assess risks across property, liability, auto, and specialty lines, with a focus on construction and contracting clients
• Collaborate with Account Managers and Producers to develop tailored insurance solutions that balance client needs with underwriting guidelines
• Negotiate terms and conditions with insurers and underwriting partners to secure competitive options
• Maintain compliance with internal underwriting policies and industry regulations
• Support the continuous improvement of underwriting processes, tools, and documentation
• Provide mentorship or guidance to junior staff when required

Qualifications:

• Minimum 3 years of underwriting experience in commercial lines (construction experience preferred)
• Post secondary education in business, finance, or a related field
• Active RIBO license required (or eligibility to obtain)
• CIP, CAIB, or other industry designation considered an asset
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills with a high attention to detail
• Proficient in insurance management systems and Microsoft Office Suite
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to build strong relationships across teams and clients
